Today it is with great sadness that I am forced to make the announcement that the New York Modified Midget Series will be shutting down effective immediately. I want to start by thanking those drivers who showed interest and dedication to the series by registering with the series already. To those drivers, your registration checks will be mailed back to you this week. In the recent economy, many tracks and series have suffered financial hard times as well as individuals. Recently the economy has affected me in my personal life and it has forced me to take a majority of my time to address my personal financial needs. With these changes in my life, I have not been able to give the NYMM Series the time and attention needed to continue its growth as New York's only touring 600 Series. With that said, I do want to extend my best wishes to Jim Radney and Shannon Doran on their new 600 touring series and also would like to congratulate them on the sponsorships they have acquired for their series.
Now I would like to take some time to look back at the series past and also thank a few people. As I look back, the NYMM Series took on some big challenges and brought to the forefront 600cc racing in New York State. Who would have thought that 600 racing would be in the spotlight in front of thousands of fans, not to mention having a 600 race in New York State that would not only feature 6 heats and a double B-main just to qualify 24 cars into the feature, but be televised across NY by Hot Wings TV. None of this would be possible if Jim Timex Morgan hadn't taken a chance on a full time traveling series in 2006. I can't forget Remy Babineaux in this, as it was his hard work that helped to start and build the series as well as his vision that truly spotlighted the series and 600's in NY with his ESMM race. Working with the series from the start and setting the standards for documentation was Jeanne Arlauckas. With the rulebook and safety his primary concern, Mark DeRue worked with tracks weekly to put on a show. Bill Morrison joined the officials in 2009 to add the speed of accident response and cleanup to the series. Add to the list the family members and friends that have helped out along the way, Sarah Babineaux, Holly Steadman, Roberta DeRue and Stephanie DeRue, because without your help the series would not be the same. But most importantly, you the 600 Drivers who over the last 4 years have supported the NYMM Series by bringing your cars, crews and family to the races. This is not only directed to the members of NYMM, but to the drivers who raced with the series even one time. No series or track is going to survive without the dedication and trust of its drivers. In the last 4 years, the NYMM Series has had the pleasure of crowning some truly deserving champions. From Scott Kreutter, Timex Morgan (back to back Champion) to Jim Lafler, the champions have proven to be the best drivers of NYS in 600 series racing. To each and every track that has hosted the NYMM Series, I say thank you. Thank you for taking the chance on a new series, thank you for hosting a returning series and thank you for allowing the series to be a part of your race night. To Limerock Speedway, Paradise Speedway and Starlite Speedway, thank you for producing some of the finest drivers in NYS. Without you, the series would not have the experienced drivers it did. Thank you goes out to each and every person who gave NYMM some media attention, whether it be in a write-up on your website, radio time or in a printed media, the exposure was well appreciated. To the photographers, thank you for the photos that you have provided to the NYMM Series and to the tracks. Your ability to capture some of the greatest battles on the track and the sensational wrecks was truly amazing.
I would like to wish the 600 racers of New York State all the best of luck in your racing endeavors in 2010 and beyond. The friendships I have made throughout my time with NYMM will not be forgotten. I thank all of you for your understanding on this very tough time in racing. It is a very sad day that I have to do what I feel is in the best interest of the series. So as of today, the New York Modified Midget Series has officially closed.
Sincerely
Dan Turner.
