New York Invitational at Genesee Speedway

NYMM Races thru a Double Header weekend
Dan Turner, Brewerton/Weedsport Speedways 8/21,22/09
It was a hot humid night at the D-shaped Dirt demon. 14 of NYMM’s finest took to the 1/3 mile Brewerton Speedway to see who would claim the bragging rights for another year, of taming the Demon. The track is a great equalizer as the NYMM series only goes there once a year, and it’s a roll of the dice who’s got the right gear, tires, and chassis set u p.
Heats went of with out a hitch seeing the #7,Zack Morgan picking up the 1st of 2 heat races with 48jr, D.Ruggles , 99, C.Donk, and 45, C.Hebing. Heat race #2 was won by the 48a, A.Ruggles, followed by, 81, T.Walker, and the current NYMM point leader, 32, J.Lafler.
20 laps would be the distance for the winged warriors at the D-shaped Dirt Demon, for there feature and it wouldn’t leave many in their seats for most of it. In the early go a few races found that the humidity in the air didn’t dry out the track as they expected, and found those tricky un-alike corners very difficult and a few yellows flew. A.Ruggles lead the early go till a caution put J.Lafler on her bumper and Jim Lafler lead the field till about half way. That then put The Cobra, Chuck Hebing on Laflers bumper and on the back straight Hebing using the high line took the #1 position till the caution 2 laps from the checkers. With the next restart, Darryl Ruggles in his 48jr slipped under Hebing off turn 2 to lead the last 2 laps and collect another NYMM feature win.

Canandaigua Speedway Saturday night 8/22/09
It was another weather treating night at the Land of Legends. With a light car count daring to tempt their fate on the ultra fast, ultra big ½ mile Speedway. The heat was a lesson in why Jim Lafter in his NPS/ Lafler chassis is leading the NYMM series in the point chase. As he started on the pole by luck of the draw and walked the #32 out a straight away on the Second place runner Ken Wills, also driving a car powered by the NPS engine.
Not much of a change from the heats to the feature. It was the Jammin Jim Lafler show as he jumped out to the early lead again over Wills who cruised to a convincing second place finish. 3rd was the Originals Pizza Logs #81 of Tyler Walker. Caution free was the feature and it was a great night of racing over all.
32, 21, 81, 7, 7f, 17k, 81x
Owners notes: I first want to thank all our racers this weekend, these guys are tough competitors on the track, worked so well together making sure that each and every driver that was suppose to race, made it to their respective heats and to features. They say the old days of teams helping each other for the sake competition, is gone. Let me tell you, what I saw in the pits Fri and Saturday night, I thought I was transport back to the 50s or 60s when I saw that all the time. Its a pleasure to work with and for you all......

Tyler Walker keeps up with Family tradition.
Dan Turner, from The New Humberstone Speedway 8/01/09
On Canadian weekend of Champions at the New Humberstone Speedway, Tyler Walker showed the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. With a dominating performance in his Original Pizza Logs, SPAR powered Hyper Chassis.
It was a great day at the Port Colbourne, Ontario Canada, track. Sun was shining and the track preparation was second to none. It was smooth, with plenty of bite, or just plain, FAST.
With a very light turn out north of the border. But the few that showed, were the best of the NYMM Series. Tyler Walker started on the outside pole for his heat race. In a very few laps, it was apparent that he was a drive that came with his A-game. Winning the 8 lap heat by a full straightaway.
As the drivers were strapping into their cars, the consensus was, Jim Lafler in his NPS powered #32 was going to be the guy to beat, as he started on the pole thru luck of the redraw. It took 3 extremely fast lasts around the speedway for the brave young driver in the Pizza Logs #81 to take the top spot from the veteran, Lafler. Lafler stayed with Walker for a handful of laps till the tires came in for Walker. That’s when Walker started, walking away on the field. Leaving Lafler to contend with Zack Morgan and battle to maintain the second spot. After 15 lap feature, there was no doubt, the Tyler Walker was not to be denied his first NYMM Series Feature win.
As the owner of the NYMM Series, and staff we’d like to Congratulate, Tyler Walker and the Walker Brothers Racing Team. I’d also like to say, that it was a great night of racing with all teams helping each other out as we were tight on time between hot laps, heats, and the feature.

NYMM goes to then Land of Legends
Dan Turner, 7/5/09 Canandaigua, NY After the NYMM Series was scheduled to Weedsports, Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway. Dirt officals asked the NYMM Series to move their 4th of July race to the Land of Legends. A lite turn out of NYMM Series cars graced the fast ½ mile on the Ontario County Fairgrounds. But with only 9 cars at the track, the racing was second to none as they toured the track at speeds much quicker than their size one would think they could. Heats were only 5 laps and they flew by in a hurry with racing all over the track, as with Zack Morgan and Ken Wills picking up the wins with their Niagria Power Sports power plants. Feature time put the best with the best as the green flew at 8:15pm turning loose the lil Winged Warriors. Timex Morgan grabbed the early lead and lead to about half way of the 12 lap feature. At that time his son Zack Morgan took over the lead and Spike Smith following into the third position. Zack put about 10 car lengths between himself and Spike Smith. As the laps were whinding down Jim Lafler slipped by the Morgan #2 machine to take the 3rd spot at the end. Heat: Z.Morgan , K Wills Feature: Z. Morgan, S.Smith, J.Lafler, T.Morgan, E.Morgan, Ty.Walker, To.Walker, K.Dombrowski, K.Wills(DNF)
NYMM at Limerock on Fathers Day
Dan Turner, 6/21/09 Limerock Speedway Caledonia NY

Limerock Speedway hosts the NYMM Series for the second time in the 2009 season.
26 of New York states best midget drivers all looking to collect the 30 lap, $300 to win A-Main and make Fathers Day, 09 memorable.
The weather played havoc with the drivers and crews to try and figure out what the tight, short Limerock Speedway surface was going to do. Would it stay wet and heavy with a ton of bite. Would it dry out and maybe chunk out. As it was, the track dried out and stayed in very good condition thru out the day with a slight breeze and an intermitted sun shine
4 heats to qualify the 20 cars to take the green in the $300 to win the Fathers Day Special. With heat wins going to #0 Darryl Pierce, 37m Tony Marinetti, 91 Tony Chiruck, 21 Ken Wills. Top 4 were qualified into the A-main, with the top 2 going back into the redraw.
With a B-Main set up to qualify the last 4 drivers into the field, 10 cars took to the track for a 15 lap shootout. In the field would be Cooper, Szymkowiak, To Walker, Z. Morgan, Oakes (r) Dombroski, T. Morgan, Drum, Heater and Radney. When the dust settled, Nick Cooper takes the checkers, followed by Szymkowiak, To. Walker and Z. Morgan.
With the luck of the draw, Marinetti and Wills lead the 20 car field to the green. Marinetti took the early lead form Wills and lead till lap 4 when the first yellow flew for the twin spin of the #5 Ethan Morgan and the #11 Jacob Szymkowiak. The single file restart would seem un-exciting, but the tight track with a turn 3 restart cone provide just the opposi te. Restart resembled a jail break as they came off the four turn 3 and 4 wide on the slick track. At lap 15, Wills made his move in the NPS powered Wills Dairy Farms #21 to take the lead from Marinetti’s #37m. With a few more cautions and restarts, Will stayed out front and collected his biggest pay out in his NYMM Series racing career.
Other notables on the day were, the Tyler Walker #81 with a consistent run for the youngster of N.Tonowanda, Marinetti, Chiruck, and Smith were all in the top 5.

NYMM TAKES FIRST TRIP TO THE NORTH COUNTRY
6/13/ 09 Merrittville Speedway, Therold Ontario Canada.
Dan Turner

The NYMM Series goes over the border into Canada for their first of two trips this season. Many found out the border Patrol doesn’t play games, I was one of them. As I found out that if your racecar or in my case 4 wheeler is too dirty, you won’t be allowed to take that across the border. So, 75 mins. And $4 worth of quarters later I finally made it to the speedway in to call the first of the two heats for the NYMM Series.
The heats went off with out a hitch as Todd Cummings in the STS Transport #10, dominated the first heat. Winning by a straightaway in the 6 lap run. Young Ethan Morgan collected his first NYMM Series heat racing at the famed Canadian track, in his After Hours Imaging/ Lafler Chassis #5.
The field was lead to green after the redraw put Timex Morgan and former Merrittville Pro Stock runner Tom Walker on the front row. Morgan grabbed the early lead. The feature was slowed a few times with single car spins of Kirstin Dombrowski and Ethan Morgan. On lap 9. Jim Lafler in his NPS Racing Powered #32, took the lead from Morgan using the high side of the track and kept the RPM at their max. Lafler checked out on the field till a 2 car situation on turn 4 stop the field as the red flew for the contact between #23 John Smith of Rexville and Ethan Morgan of Churchville. Morgan needed the assistance of the medical staff to exit the car. Morgan was OK. With only one lap dash for the checkers, Timex Morgan gave it all he had , but came up short as Lafler took the victory.
Jim Lafler “ I was real bad in the warm ups and heat, but after watching the Open wheel lites class, I thought the top had bite. I had to be careful and learn it, for our cars, the top is right on the edge”

21 Midgets show up on a less than perfect weather night at Genesee Speedway. The race program kicked off at exactly 6pm and the first midget heat took to the speedway. All the heats went green to checkers, with wins going to #95 J. Radney, #23 J. Smith and #91h C. Homan. Hussling the racing program along, the NYMM Series took to the track for their 20 lap main event. Jim Radney in his Hyper Chassis jumps out to the early lead. On lap 2, Danny Knoll, lost the handle on his Colton Rvs #17 on the slippery turn 4 exit. Then Mother nature reared her ugly head and the skies opened and started to rain. After a 2 hour delay the track staff at Genesee Speedway had the track in AWSOME shape and was ready to go racing. After confirming with NYMM officals, the Genesee Speedway staff opted to send out the Street Stocks to run their 20 lap main before the NYMM Series headed back to the track to run the final 18 laps of their feature event. About 9:30pm the green flew again to send the NYMM Series off to finish their rain delayed feature. Lap 12, showed the Genesee fans why the NYMM Series is one of the most action packed touring series in the northeast. Ron Gamble in his Uni-step machine took one wild ride as his blue #27 went end for end and side over side entering the 1st turn. Ron Walked away from the car sore but physically OK, but the car has a lot of bent and broken parts. The green was displayed againg and we thought we were going to wrap this feature up. On lap 17, John Smith in his purple #23 and the #7 of Zack Morgan made contact and Smith was backwards in turn 4 and the yellow flew again. The lap 17 restart lead to another red flag as Knoll, #5 Ethan Morgan, #4 Eric Bovee, and #21 Ken Wills all came together on the front stretch resulted in Wills flipping his Got Milk ride and Knoll on his side when the cars all came to rest. Race Director Mark DeRue surveyed the drivers to see if they wanted to call the race at lap 17 or run out the last 3 laps, and they all wanted to finish it out. Green flew and the final 9 cars finished the main event with Jim Radney in his #95 leading all 20 laps in a dominating fashion. Finish order, 95 J Radney, 91h C Homan, 7 Z Morgan, 2 T Morgan, 81 T Walker, 32 J Lafler, 5 E Morgan, 17 D Knoll, 21 K Wills, 4 J Bovee, 17k K Dombroski, 23 J Smith, 48j F Jarkiewicz, 8 H Oakes, 11 J Szymkowiak, 20c M Ciliberto, 14j J Gurney, 17 D Miller, 27 R Gamble, 7F M Farnham Lap leaders, J.Radney 1-20 Images by Ron Rigby can be seen here:

New York Modified Midgets sneak past Mother Nature
05/09/09 Limerock Speedway, Mumford NY
Dan Turner
The NYMM series sneaks a race past Mother nature. The 1/8 mile Limerock Speedway was set and ready for the invasion of the New York Modified Midgets. At 11:30am skies opened up and a huge down pour started that lasted 45 min. Long time track racer and facility Director Bob Kelly talked the Limerock Board of Directors into waiting for 3pm to make their decision either to run or call the show. Mr Kelly was right as at 3pm the skies cleared a stiff breeze helped with the track drying. At 5pm the track packers entered the track and only 30 min late, the first heat race entered the track.
25 NYMM cars showed up on this questionable weather night at Limerock. The heat races went off with out a hitch, with heat races going to S.Freeland #99, J Radney #95, J Smith #23.
B-Main Saw the #21 K Wills and #91 T Chiruck transfer in from B-Main #1. #32 J Laffler and #46 P Kelly transfer in to the 30 lap main event for the NYMM Series.
After the redraw, the 16 car field was lead to green by T Marianetti and J Radney. On lap 4, the field was slowed down with a orange cone finding its way on to the track, On the restart Radney’s 95 lead, 35n Cooper, 23 Smith, 7 Z Morgan, 37 Marianetti. Caution again flew on lap 14 with the leader making contact and bending a front axel and out for the night. The next 15 laps were lead by the Honeyoe Auto Part 35n of Nick Cooper showing his NPS racing power. With one lap to go, Smith’s 23, got out of shape and was collected by the 48j of Jarkewicez. On the restart the 27 of Gamble was turned around so the yellow was out again. On the second attemp of a green, white, checker, Cooper led Timex and Ethan Morgan. And with ease, Cooper cruised the last of the race to get his first NYMM Series feature win of 2009. Nick wants to dedicate his win to his Mom, Renee for mother’s day! She puts up with a lot with racing, and she doesn't even get to go cause of work.
NYMM PRESS RELEASE:
BLACK ROCK SPEEDWAY 04/05/09
DAN TURNER REPORTS:

NYMM fires on all cylinders at the Rock Launcher at Blackrock Speedway on
Sunday, April 5th, 2009. 17 NYMM 600cc came out to shake down their cars at
one of the fastest tracks they will attend all year. First heat went green to
checker with #32 jammin’ Jim Lafler picking up the win with #2 Timex Morgan,
#23 John Smith and #27 Ron Gamble picking up the redraw. In heat two, we
watched Daryl Ruggles jump from the 8th starting spot to 3rd in the 1st lap.
Ruggles eventually to lead on lap 4 of the 10 lap heat. Ruggles cruised to the win
with #41M Alex Mosher, #81X Tom Walker and #7 Zack Morgan in the redraw.
At about 6:15pm the NYMM Series took to the 4/10 mile Blackrock Speedway,
With Alex Mosher and Jim Lafler leading in the 17 car field to contend for the
15 lap feature for the little wing warriors.
Alex Mosher grabbed the early lead. A restart found Mosher with
mechanical problems and Jim Lafler took over for a while. Lafler did battle with
his 600 with Daryl Ruggles and his new Hyper/SPAP 636 powered ride. Ruggles
wrestled the lead away then showed the NYMM Drivers why he's a dominating
drive at the Paradise Speedway where he calls home.
The Ruggles family in general has an awesome day as Dad captured the NYMM
Opener, and daughter Alysha took home a respectable 6th place finish.
The feature was slowed 4 times with John Smith's spring on lap 1 in turn 4,
then the 17K of Kirsten Dombrowski losing a front tire also on turn 4 of lap 3.
Lap 8 saw the yellow flag fly as Timex Morgan and Spike Smith made contact
and both were down for the day. Ethan Morgan met with a rock and ended up
in the infield on lap 13. It was an exciting memorable day for all.
